any help anyone can offer will be appreciated - I know the time has come to replace my iMac, but I don't want to do it just yet, but I would still like to be able to use the larger screen from time-to-time. DriveDx supports diagnostics of external drives connected via eSATA and Thunderbolt. All actual SSD and HDD models are supported. DriveDx supports diagnostic of internal SSD and HDD drives, Apple SoftRAIDs and Apple Fusion Drives.

So what I want to do is to isolate the HDD completely, which I'm hoping will stop the panics happening and stop "loosing" the SSD - is this possible? DriveDx requires Mac OS X 10.6 or newer, 32/64-bit Intel-based Mac.

However, move forward to now, two things are making me question whether that's going to help? Ībout 18 months ago (pre pandemic) I started experiencing regular panic attacks, which based on various posts on this forum pointed to the internal 1TB SATA HDD - I visited my local Apple store who confirmed that I do indeed have a failing HDD so (again based on posts on this forum) I bought an external USB attached Samsung 1TB SSD which I installed macOS on and selected as my Start Up disk - the intention was that once I was happy it was working OK I would get Mac:Upgrades to replace my internal HDD with the SSD but the pandemic hit us and I decided to put that on hold. I have an iMac (21.5 inch, Late 2012) which is a sealed unit requiring specialist help to open/replace/reseal (and before anyone tells me, I know there are kits I can buy to DIY, but I'm not comfortable with doing it myself!).
BINARYFRUIT DRIVEDX HOW TO
I know there are items covering this topic in this forum, but the ones I've found all date back a good few years - and I'm not sure I understand how to piece together the different posts to achieve what I'm looking to do.
